Description The Research Methods module provides business students with fundamental training of the research process and the available methods of data collection and analysis in the wider Business Management context. Students will grasp an in depth knowledge of research philosophy, research design, research approach, data collection, data preparation and data analysis including in-class sessions and workshops on more advanced analytical techniques for both quantitative and qualitative research. This module also involves introduction of software applications used in the analysis of both qualitative and quantitative research. In addition, core skills in writing research reports will also be delivered from understanding literature reviews through to report completion.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Critically assess and apply advanced research designs within the process of research, making reasoned and justified decisions as to the choice of appropriate designs
  • Critically assess, select and justify appropriate methods of data collection and analysis techniques
  • Understand and apply statistical analysis techniques for quantitative data and data analysis techniques for qualitative data
  • Demonstrate the ability to plan and write a well-structured, reasoned and justified research report
