Description The key aim of the module will be to develop students’ understanding of the major theoretical and critical debates that underpin contemporary film studies. A wide variety of approaches will be covered in detail, encouraging close appreciation and understanding of the central theoretical and critical issues.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate a detailed understanding of major theoretical and critical approaches to film
  • Apply notions of the critical and/or theoretical ‘voice’
  • Apply major critical and theoretical approaches to the detailed study of film texts
  • Present sustained and persuasive written arguments expressively and coherently
