Description
This module has two main aims related to the skills of speaking and listening in academic contexts.
The speaking part of the module will help students develop confidence in their own ability to speak out in large-group contexts, to develop strategies for participating in debates, and to develop skills for organizing and giving presentations using appropriate academic language.
The listening section will prepare students for understanding lectures, discussions and debates, with a strong re-quirement to be able to perceive when language is aca-demic in nature, both lexically and structurally, and how it is used in various contexts.
Authentic recorded texts of lectures, debates, and discus-sions will be used. Students will learn to listen for gist and also for detail.
The textbook used will be at B2 level.
