Exclusions
Description This module builds on the content covered in the LC Qualitative Research Methods module.

It will examine more complex qualitative research approaches (e.g. phenomenology, ethnography and action research) and data collection techniques (e.g. focus groups). It will cover more sophisticated data analysis techniques and work with larger samples (e.g. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis and Discourse Analysis). Issues relating to trustworthiness will be considered in greater detail, particularly in relation to data analysis. The importance of conducting research in line with ethical principles, such as the BPS Code of Ethics will be further emphasized.

Research examples will focus on social, individual differences and developmental psychology.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Design complex qualitative research studies, taking practical and ethical considerations into account
  • Select/develop appropriate data collection instruments for generating qualitative data
  • Use data analysis techniques to conduct sophisticated data analysis of qualitative data, and interpret findings
  • Write research reports according to quantitative research conventions
