Exclusions
Description This module aims at the more advanced level and extends receptive and productive skills to a more sophisticated level. It will extend skills developed at level 7A. Learning strategies and study methods will be developed to increase independent learning. Students will be exposed to a variety of different types of spoken and written texts. They will increase their awareness and use of different registers. Substantial authentic video and audio material will be used as well as newspaper articles and the Internet in order to enhance students’ cultural knowledge of the country where the language is spoken. The course content will be delivered in a lively and interactive way, through activities designed to enable you to use the language in context, either in small groups or in pairs. However, particular emphasis will be put on productive skills (speaking and writing).
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Perform a variety of unpredictable oral and written tasks in the target language;
  • Deliver an oral presentation in the target language on a complex topic and debate related issues;
  • Develop a deeper understanding of and competence in formal and informal registers;
  • Identify and articulate in writing and speaking some knowledge of key cultural aspects of the country where the language is spoken;
  • Understand a discussion between two native speakers of the target language;
  • Demonstrate the achievement of at least B2.1 Level of the CEFR for languages in the use of French language.
Assessment 33346-01 : 90-minute reading/writing exam : Exam (Centrally Timetabled) - Written Unseen (50%)
33346-02 : 10-minute oral assessment : Class Test (50%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions A 90-minute reading/writing exam on campus [50%].

A 10-minute oral assessment [50%].

Alternative assessment if on campus activity is restricted: The reading/writing exam will take place online. Students have 24 hours to access the paper. If live oral assessments are planned, then the alternative will either be recorded presentations or conducted via Zoom/Skype.

Re-assessment: Resit failed component.

Alternative re-assessment for Exchange students: According to the policy of the home institution.
