This module aims at the more advanced level and extends receptive and productive skills to a more sophisticated level. Learning strategies and study methods will be developed to increase independent learning. Students will be exposed to a variety of different types of spoken and written texts. They will increase their awareness and use of different registers. Substantial authentic video and audio material will be used as well as newspaper articles and the Internet in order to enhance students’ cultural knowledge of the country where the language is spoken. The course content will be delivered in a lively and interactive way, through activities designed to enable you to use the language in context, either in small groups or in pairs. However, particular emphasis will be put on receptive skills (reading & listening).
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Deal with complex issues relating to the grammar of the target language (morphology/syntax);
Read and show understanding of complex articles from press in the target language on a wide range of topics;
Develop an understanding of and competence in formal and informal registers;
Demonstrate knowledge of key cultural aspects of the country where the language is spoken;
Show evidence of working towards use of the German language to B2.1 level of the CEFR for languages.

A 45-minute grammar/vocabulary online test [50%]. Students have 24 hours to access the paper.
