Exclusions
Description The module will use psychological case-studies, scenarios and problem-based learning to encourage engagement with study, self-care and employability skills in a manner tailored to Psychology and Neuroscience students’ needs. The use of case studies and scenarios is intended to demonstrate the professional relevance of the skills addressed. The module learning outcomes align directly with the QAA’s generic skills for Psychology students.

Interactive Lectures (consisting of introduction to materials and small group-based activities):
  • Translating science for others (Public engagement);
  • Making the most of digital media (Digital skills);
  • Putting your skills forward to others (Entrepreneurship);
  • Fitting things in when the pressure builds (Time Management);
  • Judging your own practice (Reflection skills).
  • Seminars:
    Self-care for scientists (Wellbeing session).

    Workshops:
    Introduction to Coding for Psychologists/Neuroscientists (3 weeks of coding).3 tutorial sessions to encompass a draft, peer-feedback, redraft and submit cycle for a report
  • Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
    • Communicate ideas and research findings by written, oral and visual means;
      • Interpret and use numerical, textual and other forms of data;
      • Solve problems by clarifying questions, considering alternative solutions and evaluating outcomes;
      • Be sensitive to, and take account of, contextual and interpersonal factors in groups and teams;
      • Undertake self-directed study and project management, in order to meet desired objectives;
      • Take charge of their own learning, and reflect and evaluate personal strengths and weaknesses for the purposes of future learning.
    Assessment 33864-01 : Class Test : Class Test (50%)
    33864-02 : Coding Assessment : Coursework (50%)
    Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment:
    2x Online tests (2x per semester) consisting of MCQs, MAQs, and tasks that can receive rapid automated feedback (30% each; 60% overall);
    1x Tutorial report 1000 words (40%).

    Reassessment:
    Online tests can be reattempted with alternative questions (question banks);
    Tutorial report can be reworked and re-submitted if failed.
