Description The module aims at developing global citizenship and global perspectives, appreciation of interdisciplinary approaches, and a recognition of the place of Biomedical research and education in the contemporary world. In this module students will use creative thinking and research to look at the overarching challenges on how the evolving biomedical field will impact on the changing world the people of tomorrow will face. Creativity takes many forms and this module will encourage students (working in groups) to look at the world through different lenses and develop new approaches to communicate their novel biomedical advances to a wider audience. Examples from innovators whose ideas were once seen as radical but have made a lasting impact on our world will set the starting point for students to explore the potential expansion of their solution to a global challenge.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module, students should be able to:
  • Outline the main elements of the Global Challenge including the scope and impact on Society
  • Synthesise material from a wide range of sources in order to produce a comprehensive understanding of a multi-faceted issue and awareness of the risks associated with the implementation of the solution
