This module will explore the process of staging a show from the perspective of the production team. The focus will be on the contributions of, and relationship between, Stage Technologies, Design and Stage Management and how each of these ‘backstage’ fields enhance the overall development and evolution of a show alongside the creative team.
Students will learn the practical processes involved through tutor-led classes as well as having the opportunity to apply these skills working in a supported manner on a full-scale department show. Students will develop an understanding of the timelines, process and considerations in providing meaningful support for a production.
The students will be taught and assessed through specific practical and theoretical work that embeds core employability skills within the theatre. This will include their contributions to working backstage on a production, and a more in-depth theoretical exploration of one area of the field in a project.
