Exclusions
Description This module focuses on cognitive psychology and the development of cognition across the lifespan. It has a particular focus on how cognitive processes are involved in learning across the lifespan.

It will examine cognitive processes such as attention, perception, memory and language and consider how these processes develop and change across the lifespan.

Cognitive theories of learning will be evaluated. The role of cognitive processes in learning in a range of settings will be examined.

The influence of language and culture on cognitive development will be considered.

Atypical and typical cognitive functioning and development across the lifespan will be discussed.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Describe key cognitive processes and their relationship with learning. Demonstrate ways in which these processes develop and change across the lifespan.
  • Distinguish between typical and atypical cognitive functioning and development across the lifespan.
  • Identify factors that can influence cognitive development.
  • Use cognitive theories of learning to explain how learning occurs.
Assessment 34607-01 : Written 'review' paper, 1500 words : Coursework (50%)
34607-02 : Take Home Test, 1500 words : Exam (Centrally Timetabled) - Written Unseen (50%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment: 1500 word Written ‘Review’ paper (50%) and a take home test 1500 words (50%)
Reassessment: resubmission of the failed component where the overall module is less than the pass mark.
