Exclusions
Description This module examines the period, 1936 to 1975. Through interaction with a wide variety of interdisciplinary sources (historical documents, visual media, literary texts), students will learn about the Spanish Civil War, the tourist boom and American influence on Spain. They will explore subjects as diverse as military history, international aid, and the changing of social mores in 1960s Spain. This is an introductory module to Spanish history, and no prior knowledge is required.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Show comprehension of and analyse the evolution of Spanish national identity during the period, 1936-1975, and the national and international factors influencing this evolution;
  • Exhibit a broad knowledge of the socio-cultural response to these developments;
  • Demonstrate understanding of the influence of war, dictatorship, and Americanisation on national identity in this period.
