Exclusions
Description This module aims to introduce students to Qur’anic and Classical Arabic. A textbook will be followed which will offer an introduction to grammatical concepts and to vocabulary relevant for approaching the Qur’an. Students will be shown how to use standard reference works, such as dictionaries, to assist in understanding texts in their original language.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Read Arabic script;
  • Use basic language reference works such as grammars, dictionaries and relevant online resources;
  • Translate simple Arabic phrases into English with the help of basic reference works.
Assessment
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment:
2 x formally-administered class tests of one hour duration each (50% each).

Reassessment:
Failed individual assessment elements only need to be reassessed if they contribute to the failure of the whole module. In this event, the module tutor will set an alternative class test to replace the failed assessment task.
