Description
Dance 2B comprises of study in the following dance genres: classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap and street/commercial dance. The aim of the module is to prepare students with the necessary technical and artistic skills required for a career as a versatile dancer in all genres, with confidence in singing and acting skills. Students will be given the opportunity to gradually develop a more nuanced and focused awareness of style as appropriate to each dance discipline.
Building upon the skills acquired at level 4, students will develop a more in-depth vocabulary of steps, movements and style, alongside a more sophisticated execution of the material studied.
The module will provide students with the opportunity to become more versatile and assured performers in each dance discipline and enable them to begin to critically evaluate their own performance.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate an intermediate knowledge and understanding of principles and practice in the dance genres;
Demonstrate a sound knowledge and application of musicality and show a confident, nuanced and detailed sense of style as appropriate to each discipline;
Demonstrate a sound knowledge and detailed understanding of the appropriate technical skills within each dance discipline.

Assessment Methods & Exceptions
Assessment: Performance in 2 tutor-led dance classes considered by each student to be their ‘major’ disciplines (approx. 1 hour each class) (40% each) and the same in a ‘minor’ discipline (approx. 1 hour class) (20%).
