Description The aim of this module is to prepare students for entry into the professional workplace and will introduce the key skills required for auditioning, seeking representation and securing work.
Professional audition skills will be tested by undertaking a mock audition. The focus will either be: Jazz for Audition or Musical Theatre Mock Audition. The dance focus will give students an insight into current trends and requirements of the industry for dancers. The focus could include auditions for cruise ships, trade shows and commercial videos and will test the students’ ability to ‘pick-up’ the choreography accurately and how each student presents themselves under pressure. For the musical theatre mock audition students will be required to respond to a casting breakdown and prepare a song and script excerpt for a role of their choosing.
The careers lectures will provide students with the necessary skills to produce industry-standard materials, such as a professional photograph, Curriculum Vitae, letter of introduction and a sample invoice. Lectures will provide additional information on areas such as accountancy, Equity membership and how to manage a professional career upon graduation.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Display the necessary professional skills to an audition panelDemonstrate an advanced level of technical skills in dance and/or acting and song;
