Description Musical Theatre 3B is for the dancers on Track B, who need to develop accompanying skills in acting and voice for auditions. The module aims to equip students with a portfolio of materials that can be used for a variety of audition contexts. Classes will focus on enhancing vocal technique for dancers across singing and acting, on establishing convincing character-based work, on improving sight-reading, and delivering confident performances through acting and song.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Source, learn and prepare an individual portfolio of songs and monologues suitable for them and appropriate for audition contexts;
  • Demonstrate advanced skills in acting and vocal techniques, delivered with confidence and expertise;
  • Understand and apply appropriate professional audition etiquette.
Assessment 35077-01 : MT : Practical (100%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment:
Singing for Audition presentation OR Acting for Audition (100%):
Singing for Audition presentation - students present a portfolio of 5 solo audition songs as prepared/rehearsed throughout the semester. The Assessment panel will select 2 songs to be assessed. Assessment criteria includes vocal technique, acting through song and audition etiquette/presentation (approx. 8 minutes) (100%)
OR
Acting for Audition presentation - students prepare 1 monologue for the assessment panel. The students will also be given a piece of sight-reading to perform as part of the assessment (approx. 8 minutes) (100%).

Reassessment:
Failed component only;
