Exclusions
Description This module will help students read and interpret extracts from the Hebrew Bible in the original language. Seminars will introduce intermediate-level Hebrew grammar whilst giving students the opportunity of reading, translating and interpreting poetic texts from the Hebrew Bible (from the Psalms and Latter Prophets).
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Read designated intermediate-level poetic texts from the Hebrew Bible;
  • Translate designated texts into idiomatic English;
  • Critically exegete designated texts in the light of contemporary biblical scholarship whilst paying particular attention to syntactic and grammatical features of the relevant texts;
  • Demonstrate understanding of intermediate-level functions and features of Classical Hebrew grammar and syntax, with particular reference to poetic devices and more advanced issues of style.
Assessment
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment:
A translation and exegetical essay of 2,500 words in total (100%).
