Description Regardless of whether the golf professional operates as a self-employed business person or as an employee of a larger business, it is important that he or she has a sound understanding of business finance and taxation. The aim of this module is to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to manage the finances of a small business operating within the golf industry. In addition, it is expected that the students will develop the ability to analyse and interpret relevant financial statements in order that they can assess the performance of a golfing enterprise whether big or small. From this analysis, it is expected that students will be able to recommend appropriate actions to improve business performance.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module, students should be able to:
  • Evaluate the main financial concepts involved in business and discuss the main sources of business finance in the golf industry
  • Manage a financial recording system to analyse income and expenditure in a golf business and complete a VAT 100 form
  • Develop and interpret balance sheets, cash flow forecasts and profit and loss accounts and use simple accounting ratios to evaluate financial performance and recommend appropriate actions to improve business performance
  • Discuss the principles of budgetary control
  • Evaluate the key elements of the tax system relating to businesses operating in the golf industry
