Exclusions
Description This module introduces students to evidence-based psychological therapies in the treatment of mental ill-heath, with a focus on cognitive-behaviour therapy and third wave therapy approaches (e.g. compassion-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy). This module has a strong applied focus, and students taking it will develop skills in psychological formulation and devising psychological treatment plans using evidence-based theoretical models and case study material, and skills in critical evaluation of contemporary intervention research within clinical psychology.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module, students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of contemporary evidence-based psychological therapy approaches and models to treat mental health problems
  • Apply psychological theories and research to devise psychological formulations about the development and maintenance of mental health problems using complex clinical case materials
  • Critically evaluate psychological intervention research within clinical psychology
  • Develop evidence-based arguments about the efficacy and effectiveness of psychological interventions for mental health problems
Assessment 35253-01 : Coursework : Coursework (100%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment: Coursework (100%, 3500 words plus a detailed and extensively researched table). The coursework has two sections but is submitted as a single assessment: 1) critical review (including extensively researched table)2) clinical case report
Reassessment: No reassessment as this is a final year option.
