Description This module examines the contemporary history of Spain from 1975 to the present day. Through interaction with a wide variety of interdisciplinary sources (historical documents, visual media, literary texts), students will learn about the consolidation of democracy, Spain´s development into a prosperous economic power, the subsequent recession and the growth of protest movements. It examines how Spain developed into a fully industrialised, consumer society, and attempted to become an international player in supranational organisations. This module builds on the knowledge gained in the first semester of this module.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate understanding of the democratisation in Spain;
  • Evaluate critically a wide range of vectors relating to this period;
  • Analyse Spain´s trajectory to become an international power during the González Era, and Aznar era, and its recent role as an international leader in protest movements.
