Description Restoration and Revolution will engage with the poetry and drama of one of the most vibrant and innovative periods of English literature. In this module we will explore the continuities and changes in literary culture that were taking place over the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. Writers studied will include Milton, Dryden, Behn, Congreve and Pope.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate skills in close reading texts from the Restoration and early eighteenth-century period, and ability to comment on the characteristic literary styles, genres and discourses employed;
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of writing from the Restoration and early eighteenth-century period within the appropriate social, material and cultural contexts;
  • Identify and evaluate appropriate critical approaches to writing from the Restoration and early eighteenth-century period.
