This masters level module provides a strong theoretical foundation for geographical research within the social sciences and humanities. Students will explore the use of social, cultural, political and economic theory in geographical texts. The course provides a structured space for the close reading of original texts both in human geography and in the wider social sciences and humanities. Students will develop a theoretically-informed critical thinking attitude towards socio-spatial processes and issues. They will develop skills of critically synthesising literature, organising and chairing discussions, reporting on seminar outcomes, presentation and academic writing. The aim of the module is to develop conceptual understanding to inform critical evaluation of current research being advanced in human geography.
