Description This module will introduce students to what a literature review is and its role within a research project and/or professional practice. It will guide and support students through the process of developing a literature research question; devising a comprehensive and systematic search strategy; using information databases to access literature; reading and critically analysing the literature; and writing an effective literature review on a specific topic. Students will be taught in small-group seminars as well as receiving topic-specific support from an academic supervisor.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Clearly define an appropriate research question
  • Devise a comprehensive and systematic search strategy and use appropriate resources to identify and find relevant literature
  • Effectively communicate the rationale for, and approach to, their literature review in an oral presentation
  • Critically analyse the relevant literature
  • Synthesise the findings to write an effective, concise and accurate literature review
