Description This module introduces students to the benefits and challenges of interdisciplinary research and impact. Through a series of case studies, students will learn about how interdisciplinary research can address global issues and how "impact" is conceptualised, planned for, implemented, and measured. These case studies – including School interdisciplinary research and REF impact cases – will be presented, before being interrogated through a series of seminars during which we will critically examine the major barriers to conducting interdisciplinary research and producing impactful research and how to overcome them.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive and critical understanding of interdisciplinary research and research impact
  • Evidence a critical awareness of the major barriers to and facilitators of effective interdisciplinary and impactful research
  • Critically evaluate interdisciplinary research and impact case studies from within the sport, exercise and rehabilitation sciences
  • Assessment 36399-01 : Critical appraisal (1500 words) : Coursework (50%)
    36399-02 : Open book examination (4 hours) : Exam (School Arranged) - Open Book (50%)
