Description This new non-credit bearing module will be used to timetable personal development sessions for students in year 3 of the Biomedical Material Science (BMedSc) course, such as careers sessions, resilience training, library sessions and to encourage the development of skills critical for the students to achieve their full potential on the course, but also increase future employability.

To achieve those goals, content will be focused on non-module specific skills acquired during the year. This will not require any additional assessment but emphasises and rewards engagement of students with these elements.

Furthermore, it ensures that students are not progressing with deficiencies in their skills which could put them at a significant disadvantage in the final year.

Students shall normally be required to:
1. Attend, engage with and contribute to all identified compulsory teaching sessions.
2. Engage with their Personal Tutor during tutorials and reflect on the subject and transferable / employability skills that they are developing with the aid of feedback that they have received.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Deepen confidence and ability to communicate orally and in writing scientific concepts and/or data;
  • Demonstrate the ability to access further resources;
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work effectively in groups and contribute to the achievement of common goals;
  • Demonstrate a willingness to engage in reflective practice relating to their learning experiences;
  • Demonstrate engagement with careers opportunities including CV writing.
Assessment
Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessments: Yes: Pass / Fail
Judgement will normally be based on the basis of successful engagement with the full range of teaching and learning activities across the year.

Reassessment: Students judged not to have achieved the minimum will be required to complete the missing components at the next available opportunity.
