Description
The Professional Skills – Freelance module enables students to pursue a placement-equivalent based on one of three distinct approaches:
1. Using their existing enterprise;
2. Developing a new offering and sourcing their own client;
3. Bidding for bespoke project work proposed by our partner employers.
This would provide students with opportunities to:
employ their existing skillset or business and enhance their enterprise skills;
develop transferrable professional/specialist skills and sector knowledge;
gain an understanding of the steps involved in starting a business;
develop a client relationship, enhance their professional network;
benefit from the support and guidance of the Enterprise Team;
kickstart a business with a reputable testimonial;
take a risk-free step towards self-employment;
support a charity or social enterprise for community benefit.
Students will be supported on the module by taught and practical sessions delivered by the module lead, by CAL Careers Network colleagues, and by members of the Enterprise team. Students will also be encouraged to complete a micro-employability credential to augment the development of freelance skills and behaviours.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate a deep and rich understanding of enterprising thought and action in the conception or development of a freelance opportunity;
Critically reflect on areas for further freelance opportunities, and demonstrate an understanding of the steps they might need to take to engender those opportunities;
Demonstrate sophisticated knowledge and understanding of effective business planning;
Evidence and narrate in nuanced ways the freelance opportunity for the purposes of a CV or Job Application/Interview.
