Description This module is part of a suite allowing students to put into practice the theoretical knowledge and skills developed during their academic studies, and to critically reflect on this activity.Students devise a civic engagement project in collaboration with local community actors. During module 1a & 1b, students develop their project proposal. The suite of modules will deepen students’ appreciation of civic engagement, encouraging them to think about how they can make change and enrich the communities in which they live. Students will have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge and skills to an authentic policy challenge in collaboration with a local community actor.

Students will be introduced to the principles of civic engagement & leadership, becoming active citizens as they design a collaborative project to explore different policy contexts of a specific social issue.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Identify and develop a collaborative civic engagement project during a placement with a community actor, aligned with the objectives of that organisation.
  • Identify relevant research, communication and leadership skills to successfully conduct the civic engagement project, such as creative thinking, project planning, utilising resources to effectively work on a social issue of local relevance with a community actor.
  • Reflect upon their own personal development across the whole module.
