Description Students devise a civic engagement project in collaboration with local community actors.

It is part of a suite of modules that allows students to put into practice their theoretical knowledge and skills developed during their academic studies, and to critically reflect on this activity. This module sees the realization & public presentation of their project.

This suite of modules will deepen students’ appreciation of civic engagement, encouraging them to think about how they can make change and enrich the communities in which they live. Students will have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge and skills to an authentic policy challenge in collaboration with a local community actor.

Students will be introduced to the principles of civic engagement & leadership, becoming active citizens as they design a collaborative project to explore different policy contexts of a specific social issue. The findings and policy recommendations will be presented within a Policy Brief at a public impact event at the end of the year.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Finalise and communicate a collaborative civic engagement project during a placement with a community actor, aligned with the objectives of that organisation.
  • Produce an appropriate evidence based Policy Brief acknowledging relevant policy contexts and suggesting authentic policy solutions.
  • Apply relevant research and leadership skills and communicate project results to an audience in an accessible, thoughtful and accurate multimedia presentation.
  • Reflect upon their own personal development across the whole module.
