Exclusions
Description The module will be taught in a variety of ways: in addition to lectures, there will be demonstrations, workshops, tutorials, and guided listening. The aim is to stimulate learning of various composition techniques and explore creativity. Attendance at workshops and seminars run in conjunction with the Department's link with Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and other professional ensembles is strongly encouraged as they form an integral and quality aspect of the course.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • • Develop an awareness of issues in 20th and 21st-century composition;
  • • Develop sustained and concentrated thought in music and the skills required to articulate it;
  • • Produce compositions for a variety of acoustic resources using a range of compositional techniques;
Assessment 37496-01 : Portfolio : Log Book/ Portfolio (100%)
Assessment Methods & Exceptions 100% portfolio, of a combined duration 8-10 minutes, covering techniques of rhythm, melody and sonority in twentieth- and twenty-first-century compositional idioms for a variety of performance forces.
