Description This module introduces students to, the legal and ethical framework for professional dental practice and the basic concepts of consent, confidentiality, negligence, truth telling and ethical research in a healthcare setting. The overall aim of this module is to prepare students to undertake a professional clinical qualification by facilitating the development of professional to know their legal responsibilities as a member of the dental profession.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Recognise the role of the General Dental Council.
  • Describe the legal and ethical responsibilities of the dental team.
  • Explain and evaluate the principles of providing safe and responsible care to patients taking into account issues relating to equality and diversity.
  • Recognise the impact of personal behaviour on the healthcare environment and on wider society.
