The module requires independent literature research and learning on the part of the student. There is an introductory lecture followed by 3 workshops on literature searching, technical and critical writing, and getting the best use out of the meeting with their topic supervisor. Each student will be assigned a member of staff for consultation of the content of the proposed critique amounting to not more than 1 hour.

By the end of the module students should be able to:
Demonstrate an ability to carry out research of complex literature associated with a current and evolving topic in some depth
Critically assess the various facets of a problem even when authoritative figures disagree
Develop presentational and organisational skills
Consistently use a clear and appropriate system for referencing source material at all relevant points in the text
Submit an essay in clear, well-written, grammatical English, of the required word-length and according to the specified deadline
