This module will introduce students to the theory of the multinational enterprise and international business and how that theory is applied in practice. It will explore the different options available to firms when internationalising and how the business environment in different geographical and cultural contexts can affect firm strategy. As a result of globalisation, understanding culture is a key to examining focal firms, and also for understanding relationships across global value chains. Different approaches to understanding culture will be investigated, to enable students to gain a practical understanding of the cultural issues which may arise within contemporary organisations and how managers can deal with such challenges. The module will involve opportunities for both individual and group/team-work.
