This module builds from the first year Becoming a Researcher/Becoming a Physiotherapist modules and focuses on more advanced research skills. It develops knowledge of research study design and data collection approaches. It introduces the key principles and approaches to data science and statistical analysis. It will cover data management, presenting data, choosing and performing analytic tests. It will also cover qualitative data analysis techniques, such as thematic analysis.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Critically evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different research designs and data collection methods (including quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods)
Demonstrate an understanding of principles of data science
Evaluate the appropriate analysis/analyses on different types of research data
Select and perform appropriate statistical tests
Correctly interpret the results of such statistical tests
Identify and explain the key principles of analysis in qualitative research
