Description This placement module is the first of six placement modules that feature as part of the MSci Physiotherapy programme and provides students with an initial experience in a placement setting. The student will have an identified clinical educator within a health care setting (and is typically external to the university) where they will have the opportunity to gain initial experience in applying knowledge and skills acquired university-based modules studied up to this point of the programme. Different students within the cohort will be allocated to diverse placement settings and learning outcomes should be interpreted flexibly in order that students are assessed optimally.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate appropriate and professional interpersonal communication skills across a range of service users and professionals.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of clinical reasoning and its importance in practice
  • Engage in observation and active participation of patient handling, demonstrating safe and professional practice.
  • Demonstrate accurate and professional collection, reporting and recording of service user data as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the wide range of service user experience across the patient journey, and present evidence of challenging their own stereotypes in relation to this.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the functions of the different types of teams across health and social care, knowledge of the roles of the different members of the team and the principles of effective teamwork.
