Description This placement module is undertaken in the summer period between years 3 and 4 of the MSci Physiotherapy programme. During the module, students spend 6 weeks undertaking an elective placement, organised by themselves and is commonly in an area of personal interest and/or be based overseas. This will give students the opportunity to critically evaluate the diversity of skills necessary for practising with a developing awareness of the future potential of physiotherapy provision. The opportunity will exist to consolidate skills developed during previous placements and further develop new profession-specific knowledge and skills.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Negotiate individual learning outcomes as relevant and appropriate for the selected placement.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills in planning, organising and satisfactorily completing this (elective) placement
  • Assess the needs of a range of service users and, with reference to current professional knowledge and relevant research, apply, evaluate and modify physiotherapeutic interventions.
  • Critically evaluate the diversity of skills necessary for practising as a registered physiotherapist in a chosen area (e.g. setting and/or specialty).
