Description This is a survey of 19th and 20th century British history that introduces core historical problems (industrialization, democratization, identity, empire & decolonization) by centring perspectives that have traditionally been marginalized. It asks: how does British history look from different perspectives? What is Britain, and who counts as British? Considering Britain as an imperial formation, it focuses on a series of 'marginal' perspectives, including Celtic, migrant, and non-metropolitan perspectives, in order to re-examine the core historical issues of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
