Description The module will cover the basics of modern electrochemistry of relevance to fuel cell study:
-Thermodynamics
-Electrochemical Kinetics
-Mass transport in electrochemical and fuel cell systems
-Experimental techniques
-Fuel cells and electrolysers
-Electrocatalysis and key reactions in fuel cell science

Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the key areas of the module, especially thermodynamics and kinetics of fuel cell electrochemical systems.
  • Analyse a set of data for the key limiting factors affecting the results
  • Make appropriate calculations, and propose suitable further experimental investigations
  • Communicate information, concepts, problems and solutions to specialists and non-specialists.

Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment:

50% class test (online via Canvas), 1 hour
50% written coursework, 1000 words (max).
