In this introduction to practical flight testing module, students will apply theory of aircraft performance, static and dynamic stability and control from earlier modules in a practical flight test experience in a real aircraft environment. Students will explore methods to assess aircraft performance and flying qualities in a range of flight phases and/or flight configurations. During the practical flight test experience students will collect flight data using manual and automated methods during a wide range of flight exercises and on completion of the exercise, reduce the data, analyse the results and present these during the post-flight debriefing.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Collect, analyse and evaluate performance and handling qualities data for a given aircraft against relevant certification criteria, gaining first-hand experience of a flight test environment, including pre- and post-test activities, safety culture and airside security environment [C10, C12, R11].
