The module consolidates linguistic skills to an advanced level, building upon existing knowledge. Students read, translate, and interpret a selection of Greek texts, and also engage with scholarship with regards to the texts' stylistic significance as well as literary, cultural, historical, and intellectual contexts. Texts may vary year by year.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Translate sections of set Greek texts with increased confidence and sophistication.
Translate unseen Greek texts by demonstrating appropriate knowledge and understanding of Greek grammar and syntax.
Research cultural and literary aspects of selected texts making use of appropriate scholarly/critical literature.
Present research on aspects of the set Greek texts in coursework.
