This module assumes knowledge of the basic principles of Latin grammar and the more common inflectional forms, along with a good grasp of basic vocabulary. Students will build on this foundation to gain a knowledge of all common noun and verb forms, along with a wider range of grammatical constructions and a wider vocabulary. They will be able to work with short passages or inscriptions and begin to have sense of style and register in original texts.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
Deploy knowledge of all the common forms of classical Latin verbs and nouns;
Recognize most common grammatical constructions of Latin
Recall and deploy a reasonably extensive vocabulary.
Translate short passages of un-adapted Latin into English independently
Analyse and comment on style in short original passages and/or inscriptions
