Description The module consolidates linguistic skills to an advanced level, building upon existing knowledge. Students read, translate and interpret a selection of Latin texts, and also engage with scholarship with regards to the texts' literary, cultural and stylistic significance and contexts. Texts may vary year by year.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Translate and interpret passages from set Latin texts.
  • Analyse and comment upon stylistic / linguistic features of Latin texts.
  • Research cultural and literary aspects of selected texts making use of a wide range of original sources, scholarly/critical literature, and scholarly editions or commentaries.
  • Present research on aspects of the set Latin text in coursework.
