Description The module consolidates linguistic skills to an advanced level, building upon existing knowledge. Students read, translate, and interpret a selection of Latin texts, and also engage with scholarship with regards to the texts' stylistic significance as well as literary, cultural, historical, and intellectual contexts. Texts may vary year by year.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Translate sections of set Latin texts with increased confidence and sophistication.
  • Translate unseen Latin texts by demonstrating appropriate knowledge and understanding of Latin grammar and syntax.
  • Research cultural and literary aspects of selected texts making use of appropriate scholarly/critical literature.
  • Present research on aspects of the set Latin texts in coursework.
