Description Advanced criminal law provides a theoretically engaged analysis of criminal offences and defences. We explore contextual questions around the purpose and legitimate limits of criminalisation, as well as complex offences relating to multi-party and inchoate/pre-emptive liability.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Locate and present coherently materials relating to criminal law from primary and secondary sources;
  • Identify and analyse the current state of doctrinal, policy and theoretical criminal law debate on the matters of criminal law covered in this module;
  • Evaluate the issues of criminal law addressed in the module in terms of doctrinal coherence and the extent to which the law achieves its policy objectives;
  • Explain and defend any personal and reasoned judgements made on issues of criminal law covered in the module.
