This module will introduce the political, cultural and social make-up of the Catalan-speaking territories in Spain and Southern France from various perspectives. Based on theories of nation-building, this module will analyse constructions of Catalan identity and the gendered dimensions of these constructions in new media and traditional cultural manifestations.
It will explore the different models of community that have developed within these regions and their relationship to broader regional, national and transnational formations through the analysis of a range of cultural representations from the area.
