Description Students will work in a professional environment relevant to their undergraduate studies for a minimum period of 30 weeks. Because of the diverse nature of the work placements, the work undertaken will vary but it will be the responsibility of the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences to ensure that it is appropriate. Students will perform work and be provided with support and training by the University and placement organisation. The specific skills will vary with placement but students will be provided with opportunities to develop technical and transferrable skills and will create a reflective professional portfolio.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate consistent professional behaviour in accordance with legal and ethical frameworks
  • Demonstrate both verbal and non-verbal communication skills using a range of techniques
  • Manage their own development of learning and performance
  • Apply subject knowledge within the professional environment
  • Reflect on their role within and contribution to the placement organisation
  • Show an understanding of how the placement has contributed to their professional and personal development
