Description
This is a four-year programme in which the third year is spent studying in an overseas institution. Years 1, 2 and 4 correspond to levels C, I and H of the Biochemistry/Biology/Human Biology/Human Sciences degree respectively. During the international year students take modules at a chosen overseas institution which will be a recognised partner of the University.
Learning Outcomes
In addition to the three years outcomes of the Biosciences teaching at Birmingham, by the end of the module students should:
Have experienced teaching and learning in a different culture/environment
Had the opportunity to broaden and deepen their scientific knowledge beyond what is offered at Birmingham
Assessment
Assessment Methods & Exceptions
Assessments:
As delivered by the host institution.
Reassessment:
As delivered by the host institution. We anticipate that in many cases the students will do resits at the host university. In the event that these are not available, Biosciences may set re-assessments. The length, form and number of these will vary depending upon how much of the year has been failed relating to the Learning Outcomes of the failed modules. In general we expect students to have either have failed one module (in which case they still have sufficient credit to pass the year), or have failed catastrophically in which case they would be transferred back to the 3-year variant of the course under tutorial advice.
