Description This module will focus upon the range of treatments and interventions for mental illness and disorder considering psychological, biological, social, and integrated approaches. The relationship between perceived causes of mental illness and disorder and treatment options will be critically appraised. Prevention and early intervention will be addressed as part of considering causes of mental ill health and treatments. Systems of mental health care and the role of policy in mental health treatments will also be addressed.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Critically consider principles of prevention and early intervention in mental health
  • Critically consider the different kind of interventions and treatments for mental health problems (social, psychological, biological)
  • Appraise mental health systems and policy-level approaches to mental health problems

Assessment Methods & Exceptions Assessment:

60% In course assignment: coursework (e.g., essay, recorded presentation, podcast or video) min. 1000 - max. 2000 words or equivalent)
40% In course assignment: self-activated timed (45-60 minutes) examination- (e.g. SAQ or MCQ)

Reassessment:

Resitting of any examination-based assessments using an alternative question assessment.
Resubmission of coursework using an alternative coursework assessment question.
