Description
LI Introduction to Sound Recording A
An introduction to the skills required in modern classical stereophonic recording. The course covers aspects of microphone use and placement; mixing and balancing; monitoring; production, engineering and post-production techniques. The course is primarily practice based and emphasises a musical, as opposed to a technical, approach to recording. In the first semester, we will handle the recording of monophonic solo instruments.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module students should be able to:
follow a recording project through from its planning stages to a produced recording and have the tools to enable them to record a monophonic solo instrument.
demonstrate awareness of the distinctions necessary when recording monophonic instruments of different kinds.
produce an edited version of a piece for an ensemble by compiling multiple segments into a continuous 'performance'.
Show understanding of post-production options in the recording of a monophonic solo instrument
show the ability to work independently and to produce assessed work of a high quality in the recording of a monophonic solo instrument.
demonstrate competence in the use of relevant technological equipment and computer software applications in the recording of a monophonic solo instrument.
