Description LI Introduction to Sound Recording B

Developing upon the techniques to record solo instruments introduced in the first semester, in the second semester we proceed to work on more complex recording setups. This will cover the recording of the piano and small ensembles, both instrumental and vocal, and the additional editing and mixing techniques required to balance an ensemble.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • follow a recording project through from its planning stages to a produced recording and have the tools to enable them to record ensembles of different kinds (piano and soloist, or trio of instruments/vocalists and up)
  • demonstrate awareness of the distinctions necessary when recording different kinds of ensembles
  • produce an edited version of a piece for an ensemble by compiling multiple segments into a continuous ‘performance’.
  • Show understanding of post-production options in the recording of ensembles
  • show the ability to work independently and to produce assessed work of a high quality in the recording of ensembles
  • demonstrate competence in the use of relevant technological equipment and computer software applications in the recording of ensembles
