Description Today, more and more sports organisations recognise a key source of gaining and sustaining a competitive advantage is their employees. Therefore, it is imperative that those within sports organisations understand how to effectively manage, lead and develop their staff.

This module examines the key concepts, approaches and strategies involved in the effective leadership and management of people within sports organisations. Within an appreciation of contemporary contexts, specifically it covers the key functions of employee recruitment, selection and retention, employee development, employee engagement, and performance management.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the module students should be able to:
  • Distinguish the concepts of management and leadership and their roles in organisational success
  • Examine the main methods used to recruit, select and retain individuals
  • Analyse the various methods of addressing learning and development needs
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of contemporary leadership and management approaches in improving individual performance
