This module aligns to NMC (2019) Standards of Proficiency for Midwives Domain 3 and Domain 4 and will introduce learners to fundamental conceptual and theoretical knowledge related to anatomy and physiology, and some common pregnancy related complications and co-morbidities seen in childbearing women and people. Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology, genetics, genomics and medicines related to childbearing, pharmacology, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, the sexual and reproductive health of adolescent girls and women, the male reproductive system, fetal development, neonatal adaptation and infant feeding. Learners will examine changes in women's reproductive health using a life course approach framework, as well as the impact of inequalities on wellbeing to enable them to support effective and inclusive care. Opportunities to develop academic study, leadership, research and teamwork skills will be provided through the use of Enquiry Based Learning.
